Why Do You Smile?

A smile is productive–
the result of thousands
of nerves and muscles,
tripped by some emotion
(mirth, embarrassment, etc.),
working in unison to curl lip corners.

A smile is seductive–
friendly invitation to come
closer, or a dare to challenge.

All smiles contain secrets.
All smiling people pose a risk.

A smile is a magnet–
pulling the world towards
the smiley face; questions
abound, waiting to be answered.
