The Hunger

I only remember that I’m hungry
After I eat. My metabolism
Is as such that food is consumed
In lustful flames almost as soon
As it is digested. I hunger.
Indefinitely. The same as any other
Human. We are cursed by this insatiable
Appetite, this need to absorb the energy
From other living things. Whether animal
Meat or seeded fruit, we kill
In order to live. No wonder we have no qualms
With starting wars amongst ourselves,
With hoarding resources, with polluting
Our neighbor’s lands (which we don’t live upon).
We must kill in order to survive–
‘Tis a cruel joke played upon us by the creator.
