A Precarious Dinner

It is an uncomfortable setting
When a rainbow-striped tiger
Is sitting across from you
At the dinner table.
She eats only meat, while
You’re testing what this whole
Vegan craze is all about.

You switched to a raw diet,
And your tiger companion–
Well, she eats her meat red
And runny; livers still pink,
Beef uncooked. At least
You two got that in common.

But that’s when the accord
Between you two ends.
She finishes her leg of yak and looks
At you with hungry eyes.
You finish your veggies and wonder
If you have the energy to outrun a tiger.
