Hyperpigmented Moon

I went for a walk
To find the moon.
It was where it
Should have been;
A 3D disc the size
Of a communion wafer
Against the backdrop
Of a blackened, starless sky.
Its hyperpigmented face was
Covered in splotches,
Discoloration, as if
Evidence of the wonders
That have bombarded it
Since man first formed thoughts.
